Treasure Time update 15th July 2024

Treasure Time, the three-year-old gelding I have a handful of shares in with RaceShare, was second at Newmarket on Saturday just beaten in the shadow of the post by Godolphin owned First Conquest in the bet365 Mile Handicap. It was a cracking effort on the July Course for his first attempt at a mile and I really thought he as going to hang on but William Buick was riding like a man possessed on the day, rode a four-timer.

William Haggas and the team at Somerville Lodge have reported that Treasure Time is “sound and fine” after the race and plans are being formulated for the coming weeks. Several options were talked of directly after the race but at this stage, Haggas feels that Glorious Goodwood is more likely as his next target. There is a race there which might just fit the bill perfectly. It’s a one mile (71-90) 3 years olds only handicap (35k) on Thursday, August 1st. So that is his likely next race and, if that goes well, William suggested we might consider the Skybet Mile at York on Friday August 23rd with a £100k in prize money. With a number behind us rated in the high 80's and 90's and the winner rated 91 it will be interesting to see what the handicapper puts Treasure Time up to; I would expect at least 3 or 4lb to be added to the mark of 81 he run off Saturday.

Newmarket were superb to us as a group of owners and a great day was had by all including a glass of bubbly or two.

When I first bought shares in Treasure Time as an unraced two-year-old last year if you had told me then he'd be winning at Newmarket as he did last month, next time out I'd be gutted to get beaten by a Godolphin homebred at HQ, and that then we'd looking at the horse running at Glorious Goodwood I would have suggested you give your head a wobble. So far it has been great fun and for not a great deal of money. If you've ever thought of joining a syndicate I can't praise RaceShare enough and would wholeheartedly recommend you look at their website and horses on offer. Onwards and upwards we go.

Update 16th July

The handicapper has put Treasure Time up 6lb for his second at Newmarket on Saturday, I was hoping it'd be more like 3 or 4 but there you go. His new Official Rating is 87. First Conquest, the winner is up 7lb to an OR of 98.

Be lucky
