The horse racing week ahead

The start of the week highlight, with all due respect to the horses running, is we will get a feel for how good a renewal this weekend's Group One King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes might be with confirmations set to be made at noon. We might, just might, see the likes of Auguste Rodin, Rebels Romance, Bluestocking, City Of Troy and Los Angeles face off on Saturday and we wait to find out. I personally doubt that City Of Troy will run but hopefully we will have a few big names in the race as it deserves to be back amongst the summer highlights. Back in the day the Derby the King George and the Arc where the main events and I think it is a real shame the Ascot showpiece appears to have lost some of it's lustre in recent years. A decent renewal with the best three-year-olds taking on the older generation might see it, rightly in my opinion, back amongst the more prestigious of races.

Glorious Goodwood is of course just over a week away and the fields for Tuesday next week begin to take shape on Wednesday with confirmations made for the Goodwood Cup, the opening Group One race of the week plus entries for the rest of the card on day one.

Things start to go up a notch Thursday with a Listed race at Sandown, they have a couple of days racing in the week that look above average at least, and a couple of Group Three races over at Leopardstown. The Racing League returns on Thursday at Yarmouth in the evening, it's a bit of fun but not anything I really take a lot of notice of. Apparently the Kevin Blake-managed Ireland team are the defending champions. The big meeting at Ascot kicks-off on Friday and in the evening we have the second episode of Champions: Full Gallop on ITV1 to look forward to; apparently this weeks instalment of the docuseries is based around the jockeys' title battle between Harry Cobden and Sean Bowen last season. Saturday is all about Ascot and the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes meeting though York does have the Group Two Sky Bet York Stakes.

Be lucky
