Best bets for the horse racing Thursday 25th July 2024

I mentioned in my post at the start of the week that the meeting at Sandown looked above average and that is where my interest is on Thursday afternoon. I also have one out in America this evening.

Best bets for the horse racing at Sandown Park

The first race of interest to me is the 7f Maiden Stakes at 2.40 not that is it a heat you can bet in but there is one running that must be watched. Ruling Court makes debut for the yard of Charlie Appleby and Godolphin. The sale-topping €2.3 million purchase from the Arqana May Breeze-Up Sale this spring has a big price tag to live up to and I noted Agent Anthony Stroud when signing the cheque for Godolphin "He’s the one horse we wanted to take home to Moulton Paddocks." A son of Justify , the American Triple Crown winner, he is the third foal out of the High Chaparral mare Inchargeofme, a Graded-placed performer on Turf during her own racing career in America. The yard saddled Arabian Crown to win last year so know what is required and this maiden has thrown up some very good ones down the years. The colt is odds-on and unbackable but make a note of the name he may turn out very good.

Flaming Stone won what looks a fair Novice Stakes at Newbury over seven-furlongs on her second start and the grey daughter of Kingman is fancied to make it two wins from three starts in the Listed 7f European Bloodstock News EBF Star Stakes at 3.15. She is a half-sister to the Group winning Angel Power and the way she made-all at Newbury suggests she is a filly that should be picking up black-type as the season progresses. I am on at 7-4

The team from Moulton Paddocks have a couple in the 1m6f George Lindon-Travers Memorial Handicap at 3.50William Buick in on Kalidasa suggesting the 2,800,000 Guineas son of Frankel is the main hope stepping up in trip as he does from his somewhat one-paced fourth placed finish over 1m2f at HQ last time. This one is out of Group winning mare So Mi Dar, a sister to G.1 winner Too Darn Hot and an initial handicap mark of 91 may well look very lenient if he has come on from his initial two runs; won over the extended mile at Wolverhampton on January. If he stays he will have bigger targets come late summer and autumn and I am on here at 3-1. The money has been coming for My Dream World

Best bet for the horse racing at Saratoga

Across the pond in America one caught the eye at Saratoga. Charlie Appleby has a select band of raiders based at Godolphin’s historic Greentree barn in Saratoga out in this States for the season and Star Guest is entered in the Grade Three  5½f Caress Stakes presented by Albany Med at 10.45 our time. She won a couple of 6f sprints at HQ last summer, having been running ocer seven and a mile before that, and started this campaign finishing third over six again at Newmarket in the Listed Ellen Chaloner Stakes. With Flavien Prat in the saddle she is worth a look as and when the Bookies over here price up.

Be lucky
