Best bet for the horse racing Wednesday 7th August 2024

The mile Unibet More Boosts In More Races Novice Stakes at 6.25 over at Kempton Park was a race I planned to bet in but won’t now. Charlie Appleby won this race last season with Measured Time before that one went on to pick up G.1’s in Meydan and America so his Arabian Light has to be taken seriously and was the planned bet, I expected at short odds, but the Bookies have opened him at 1-3! The Kingman gelding was second on debut at HQ over the eight-furlongs on the July course in June before winning a mile Novice on the same track in July easily. He can surely carry the penalty here before moving up into Pattern class. William Buick is in town to ride with just the two rides on the card so that was also seen as a positive. He can’t be backed at the price but keep a note of the name.

The other ride for William Buick on the card is the Godolphin owned two-year-old Fifth Column making debut for the Gosden yard in the 5.55 the 7f Unibet/British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes. He being by Kingman out of Inner Secret is a half-brother to Royal Marine, who won the G.1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere as a two-year-old, tipped on here back in 2018, and multiple Group winner Secret Ambition amongst the six winners the mare has foaled. The yard has had a handful of two-year-old winners this year and you’d expect this one to be at least above average. I am on at 5-2 overnight as I half expect this one to be gambled. Yargooh has a penalty to carry for winning at Haydock in May but looks the danger on what form there is; the second at Haydock went on to be runner-up in the G.2 Superlative Stakes. He was well beaten in what has turned out to be a pretty hot 5f Novice at HQ on debut before that.

Be lucky
