Best bet for the horse racing Thursday 4th July 2024

There were three horses on my mind for today but for one reason or another I am having just the one bet. William Buick is at Yarmouth to ride Shadow Of Light for boss Charlie Appleby in the 6f Weatherbys EBF Maiden Stakes and that simple fact looks a tip in itself for the two-year-old making debut and it is unsurprising he is odds-on. The yard also have two at Haydock in the shape of another debutant, Olympus Point a half-brother to three winners, and Cavallo Bay, a son of Pinatubo I have tipped before, running in the 7f ODL Queen Of The North EBF Novice Stakes at 4.10. The penalty will make things tougher for Cavallo Bay here. I am actually waiting till this evening for a bet over at Newbury.

Best bet for the horse racing at Newbury

I am actually having a bet in what might the the hardest race of the day the 7f Billington Foods Supports The Billington Foundation Handicap due off at 7.55 at Newbury. It is a wide-open affair on paper but I think there is one in here due a win. Red Maids put in her best effort for a while over track and trip recently when second off a mark of 75. Down to 73 for this, has won off 71 in the past, and the four-year-old filly should be able to get in a blow on a track that looks like it suits. She isn't the quickest out of the stalls but the long straight here gives her plenty of time to hit top gear. The yard has a winner yesterday and David Probert in the saddle is no mug. I am on at 4-1.
