Best bet for the horse racing Thursday 3rd October 2024

I mentioned in my post on Monday that the The Tips For Every Race At raceday-ready.com EBF Maiden Stakes over a mile at Newcastle at 5.40 on Thursday evening may be a race worth watching at the very least. At the start of the week it had twenty-six entered from a host of big yards. Via trainers Charlie Appleby, Saeed bin Suroor and John & Thady Gosden Godolphin had six entered with William Haggas, Hugo Palmer, Sir Michael Stoute and Archie Watson just some of the other trainers with entries. It has whittled down to eleven with a few of the eye-catching entries still in.

Best bet for the horse racing at Newcastle

The yard of John & Thady Gosden can’t buy a winner at the moment and as much as Byblos, fourth on debut at Kempton over 7f on debut appeals on paper, with the yard under such a cloud I can’t be backing the son of Frankel at a short price. Tornado Alert was third on his debut at Lingfield Park, also over seven, and is the other runner with experience that has to be considered. Camzara, a daughter of Camelot out of unraced mare Vanzara, is one I will have an eye on as the dam if from a family that have produced plenty of middle-distance winners in France; she is probably one for the future though. Reign Of Honour is the only one left in by Charlie Appleby and the son of Kingman comes for this rather than possible engagements at HQ and Wolverhampton in the coming days. The first foal out of middle-distance winning Dubawi mare Promissory, she is from a good Aga Khan family a couple of generations back that produced plenty of winners. They don’t send that many up here from Moulton Paddocks, and have a 33% strike-rate when they do, so as this one is the sole runner from the yard on duty all day it is assumed they must fancy their chances to be sending him all this way, especially as he could have run at Newmarket on Saturday. I am on at 7-2 this morning.
