Best bet for the horse racing Friday 5th July 2024

The big meeting at Sandown Park, the Coral-Eclipse Festival, gets underway Friday with a decent card with plenty of action across the UK on the day including Haydock Park and Doncaster.

Best bet for the horse racing at Sandown Park

The race in which I am most interested on Friday is the 7f Tattersalls 40,000 EBF Novice Stakes at 3.40 with some potentially decent types lining-up from big yards in the silks of major owners. Anno Domini looked to win a shade cosily on his racecourse debut at Newbury last month and the 525,000 Guineas purchase looks one to keep on side of. The form looks solid with four behind him that day running well since, one winning and the Charlie Appleby trained colt looks more than capable of defying a 5lb penalty here unless one of the debutantes is really above average. The grey son of French Derby winner New Bay is out ofa winning Galileo mare Alegra who is from a very good family that has produced plenty of winners owned by Kirsten Rausing so there is a lot to like about his pedigree. He is short at 11-10 but should be backed as I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see this one odds-on in the morning. William Buick rides and this one certainly looks the best chance he has on the card.
